Roatan

As a capstone to our stay in Honduras, Sarah and I took a trip to an island off the North Coast of Honduras, called Roatan, to SCUBA dive and relax a little before our big move. We had heard that Roatan and the other Bay Islands were beautiful and had some of the best diving in the world. We were not disappointed.

We went with some friends from the Embassy, who are regulars on the island. They were fun to hang out with and were a great help in showing us around.

The place that we stayed at was reasonably priced and quite nice. It’s called the Posada Arco Iris (meaning Rainbow Inn). It’s in a pretty area right on the beach on the West End of the island close to where we dove. It’s run by Argentineans and has an excellent Argentinean restaurant attached to it. Not only was dinner fantastic but the Pineapple Cake and Lemon Meringue there were to die for. There were several other fun little restaurants close by along the beach that we also really enjoyed. I particularly enjoyed the fresh seafood.

At church on Sunday we met some people who run BananaRama, which is the only PADI Gold Palm 5-Star dive resort on West Bay Beach, Roatan. If we are ever lucky enough to make it back to Roatan someday, we would love to try to stay there. If you get a chance to check it out, please tell the Gringos that run it (I think their last name was St. Louis) “hi” from us.

During the four dives that we took, we were amazed by the amount of sea life and the other beauties underwater. We saw all sorts of amazing things…and look forward to being able to do it again someday.

What a wonderful experience this was to finish off our stay in Honduras.
